Why we ask

Some children in Kita City have few chances to take part in the arts, for reasons of family circumstance. At the same time, schools are short of people who can teach expression and communication. We work on both with one method: drama.

Venue fees, materials and fees for professional teaching artists are not overheads — they are the quality of what a child actually experiences. Donations go into those directly.

¥5,000 covers one set of teaching materials for a drama-based class in a school.

Before you give — four things to know

1. Donations are processed in Japanese yen (JPY).: If you pay with a card issued outside Japan, your card issuer sets the exchange rate and may add its own fee. The amount you see on the form is the amount in yen.
2. The donation form is in Japanese.: We use Congrant, a Japanese donation platform, and its screens are only in Japanese. Cards from the international brands are accepted (VISA, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club), and you can choose a one-time or a monthly gift. If anything on the form is unclear, email us and we will walk you through it in English.
3. Donations are not tax-deductible at present.: Palette Works is a nonprofit corporation (NPO), but not yet a certified nonprofit (認定NPO法人) under Japanese law. We are preparing that application. Even once certified, the deduction applies to Japanese taxpayers — please assume no tax benefit if you are giving from abroad.
4. Bank transfer is available, but is set up for domestic transfers.: The form offers a Japanese bank transfer option. From outside Japan, a card is normally the simpler route.

We keep administrative costs low and put as much as possible into the programs themselves.

Keeping Kita Theater Lab running

Fees for teaching artists and materials — the cost of a class children can keep coming back to.

Producing Sakura Theater Lab

One to two community productions a year, including the public after-talks with invited specialists.

Reaching more schools

The cost of bringing drama education to more schools and classrooms.

Training the next teachers

Developing others who can teach this way, so the work does not depend on one person.

Support on the ground

Honoraria for the people who help run sessions, and equipment for making things.

Corporate registration

Palette Works is registered with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as a specified nonprofit corporation. Our registration, articles of incorporation and board are on the Tokyo NPO register.

From FY ending March 2026

Annual business report

As an NPO we prepare an annual business report and statement of accounts each year. Electronic disclosure through the Cabinet Office's NPO portal begins with the financial year ending March 2026.

For companies and organizations

Beyond donations, there are a few ways to work with us. All of these start with an email.

Supporting membership & sponsorship

Annual support for our work as a whole. Sponsors can be credited on production flyers and programmes.

Commissioned programs

Drama workshops for staff training, or for schools and institutions — team building and communication through theater methods.

Production sponsorship

Support for a single production or event, such as Sakura Theater Lab or the Kita Theater Lab presentation.

Skills and volunteering

Photography, communications, get-ins, web work. Skilled volunteers are genuinely useful to us.

Questions

Can I give monthly?: Yes. On the form, choose the monthly option instead of a one-time gift. Regular giving is what lets us plan a year of classes rather than a term. You can change or stop it at any time.
Will I get a receipt?: Congrant sends a confirmation by email when your donation is processed. If you need something else for your records, ask us and we will do what we can.
Can I know how my donation was used?: We send an annual activity report by email to donors who want one, and we post what we are doing on Instagram as it happens. Electronic disclosure of our formal annual report begins with the year ending March 2026.
Is my donation tax-deductible?: Not at present. We are preparing our application to become a certified nonprofit (認定NPO法人), after which donations by Japanese taxpayers would qualify for tax relief. We will say so here when that changes.
I would rather support you without giving money.: That helps too. Come to a production, share our work with someone who teaches, or write to us about what you do — we are trying to build connections in drama education as much as a budget.
